Overview
Portesbery School is a very special school for pupils between the ages of 3-19.
Due to future expansion and our long standing Premises Manager retiring, we are advertising for part time/full time Premises Assistant(s) to join our team at our impressive, purpose-built school in Deepcut.
We welcome applications from candidates seeking the full-time role — but we would be especially delighted to appoint two part-time Premises Assistants to share the post. If you’re looking for a flexible working arrangement, we’d love to hear from you.
Whether you’re available mornings, afternoons, or on a split-week basis, we’re open to shaping the role around the right people. Please indicate your preferred working pattern in your application.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our progressive and successful school for Children and Young Adults with a range of Special Educational Needs, from Severe, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties to Autistic Spectrum Disorders. Some students have complex medical conditions and/or physical disabilities.
Personal attributes
To be successful in the post, we want a dependable Premises Assistant to undertake a range of duties from day-to-day repairs of the school, assisting with the maintenance of our hydrotherapy pool and vehicle fleet . Ideally, you will have experience of working in a similar type role, however transferrable skills from a comparable role or background will be considered.
The ideal candidate will be able to:
- maintain the security of the premises and its contents (including the operation of fire and burglar alarms and key-holder responsibilities, fire evacuation), lighting, handyperson duties, and other duties arising from the use of premises to ensure a safe environment that is maintained for all students, staff and visitors
- Conduct routine insepctions of the site to identify any issues or hazards
- assisting with annual, monthly and daily checks of the site and recording accurately.
- assisting with ensuring our fleet of 5 vehicles are kept in roadworthy condition including scheduling all service and maintenance requirements.
- assisting in the management of the school’s hydrotherapy pool (Full training will be provided).
- assist with ensuring the site complies with Health & Safety regulations, including COSHH and manual handling
- be flexible in their working with a combination of early morning and late afternoon finishes

Salary & Benefits
Salary: Surrey Pay Grade S5 - Min £27,634 – Max £29,604 (Full Time Equivalent)
Contract: Permanent, part time or full time, 52 weeks, Annual leave 26 days per year, rising to 31 days after 5 years service
