ZooLab visit - Mar 2020
The secondary department had a visit from ZooLab to support our animal topic. The ranger, Anna, brought in lots of animals for us to meet and we learned about what they looked and felt like, what they ate and where they lived. Lots of children (and staff) loved getting up close to these amazing creatures and learning more about them. Our thanks to Catherine Booth for her fundraising that paid for this fantastic experience!
World Book Day 2020
We had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day. There were lots of stories with sensory activities for the whole school to enjoy!
Chinese New Year 2020 - Lion Dance
We were treated to a fantastic Lion Dance to help us celebrate the Chinese New Year. Thank you to Suki's Dad (Grasshopper class) and your colleagues for giving us an amazing show, and also a even bigger THANK YOU for your incredibly kind donation of £500 for the school.
Christmas Lunch 2019

This year our Primary Department put on an absolutely fantastic Nativity play, helped by some siblings! Our Sing and Sign choir also performed to get us in the christmas mood!

Christmas Fayre 2019
Thank you to everyone that came to our Christmas Fayre on Sunday. It was a great success and we have raised the bar yet again. We have smashed our previous totals and made an amazing £2,500. Head2Head Pantomime - Nov 2019
Portesbery students enjoyed a Multi-sensory Pantomime 'Jack and the Beanstalk' performed by Head2Head Theatre. This fantastic show was funded by Surrey Heath Arts Council and attended by Councillor Edward Hawkins.

At this year's leavers' assembly we celebrated the achievements of some our of our students, who are either moving to a new department or leaving Portesbery to start new adventures into adulthood. Good luck from all of us at Portesbery - we will miss you!
Portesbery's Got Talent - July 2019
Our annual event which showcases the talents of our pupils and staff. The standard was as high as ever this year, with some excellent props from some of the classes. The winners this year were Beech Class with their rendition of 'Do-Re-Mi' from the Sound of Music. In second place were Bee class with their Disney adventure, and Ladybird were third with their bicycle race!

Secondary Sports Day - June 2019
fantastic Secondary and Post 16 Sports Day! All students took part and enjoyed showing off their skills throughout. It all finished with a very competitive parent/Grandparents/siblings race which was won by Jake Gaines! Well done all!
Family Fun Day - June 2019
Thank you to everyone who attended our Family Fun Day, it was a brilliant day with such an amazing turn out. We want to say a massive thank you to all the parents and staff that volunteered on the day - you helped make the day a great success. We managed to raise a fantastic £2,000! Primary Sports Day - June 2019
It was a fun filled and mostly dry afternoon of sport from all Primary classes. Lots of enthusiasm and some excellent participation from all. Thank you to all families who joined to support and especially the extra competitiveness during the parents and siblings race! Looking forward to a sunnier day next year.
Secondary Army Assault Course - June 2019
The secondary and Post 16 departments were joined by some soldiers from the army who set up a fantastic assault course for them. It was a great course and the soldiers helped all students to have fun while working around, over and under obstacles! Well done for all your hard work!

May Day Celebrations 2019
As part of our May Day celebrations, we all enjoyed a picnic lunch surrounded by our home-made bunting, followed by a dance around the maypole and a crown parade!
ASD Awareness Day - April 2019
We had a fantastic day celebrating and raising awareness of Autism for National Autism Awareness Week. All classes participated in a Box session, then spent the afternoon choosing from a range of activities. Some went for a wood walk, others got messy in sensory play, a few chose to have fun on the swings and bikes, and lots enjoyed a well earned pamper in a relaxation session. Plus, we raised £38.28 for the National Autistic Society! Thank you for all your support.
The Wizard of Oz - April 2019
The Secondary and Post 16 classes were 'off to see the wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz'! The whole cast performed fantastically and we even had our very own Toto. A huge well done to everyone.
World Book Day - March 2019
We had a fabulous time for World Book Day. Lots of Sensory stories, a trip to the library, a Mad Hatter's Tea Party and lots of fancy dress costumes. Well done to Kyra and Lewis for winning the prizes for best outfits!
Zoolabs - February 2019
Zoolab visited our primary department yesterday and brought along a giant snail, a friendly snake and a cuddly guinea-pig, all of which our pupils loved stroking!
Christmas Lunch 2018
Our whole-school Christmas lunch (and Christmas Jumper Day!), where each class created a centrepiece for their table. As usual, the food was expertly prepared by Laura, Nicky and their kitchen elves. Thank you - It was delicious!

Our annual 'Reindeer Run' in aid of Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care . The whole school walked around our woodland pathways and Skanska arranged a special visit from Father Christmas too! Thank you to all those who sponsored the students!
Head2Head Pantomime - Dec 2018
In December, the whole school enjoyed the sensory 'Snow white' panto with Head2Head theatre. Several students rehearsed in the morning and then took part in the afternoon performance. Much fun was had by all and the pantomime dame took quite a shine to our head teacher Nathan. We'd like to say a big thank you to the Head 2 Head performers and also to Surrey Heath Arts Council for funding and joining us on this special day.
Remembrance Assembly 2018
In our special Remembrance Assembly, Kirsty shared the true story of Sue's (office staff) grandfather who served in the First World War. We explored different items of army uniform and each class laid their wreath on the commemorative display table. We finished the assembly by lighting our lanterns and saying a prayer.
It's been a very spooky day at school today! We've all been trick or treating, making scary arts and crafts and all came together for a halloween themed disco this afternoon. Well done to all of the staff, students and parents for making such an effort with your costumes!
Secondary Curriculum Day - Oct 2018
Our Secondary department have been working really hard on this term's topic - South America. This afternoon we all got together to celebrate 'The Day of the Dead', which was perfectly themed for our topic and also a great warm-up for tomorrow's Halloween activities!
Harvest Festival - Oct 2018
Thank you to all of the parents who joined us for this year's Harvest Festival. Our choir performed their Harvest Rock 'n' Roll song and we all sang along to some seasonal songs. There was a Bread Bake-off (won by Oak Class) and we donated food and drink to those in need. Thank you for your donations!
Portesbery's Got Talent - July 2018
Our annual showcase of the best talent that Portesbery has to offer. This year there were some really strong contenders for the trophy, but in the end it was Maple Class that took the title with their rousing performance of 'Aka Aleo', which impressed the judges and had the whole audience dancing! Well done everyone!

Our annual assembly on the last day of term where we say goodbye to the students and staff leaving us this year. This year we also celebrated some sporting achievements and gave presentation books to the students that will be moving into new departments in September.

We did an extra-long Wake Up & Stretch to raise money for 'Happy Days', a children's charity dedicated to providing holidays, residential trips and day theatre trips for disadvantaged young people with special needs.

We had an Easter Egg Hunt in the Quad and then said goodbye to a pupil as he leaves to start at Freemantles School, and also wished Sam well in her upcoming wedding!

Primary Curriculum Day - Transport
The Primary department have had a very busy curriculum day! In keeping with our 'Transport' topic, we explored different modes of transport in the playground then went on the train to Bagshot where we had yummy fish and chips!

Spooky Halloween Disco - Oct 2013
We had fun dancing along to some spooky songs at our Halloween disco. There were prizes for the best outfits in the Primary and Secondary Departments, as well as the scariest member of staff - well done Chris M!

Macmillan Coffee Morning - September 2013
This year we had a whole school coffee morning and were joined by parents, family members, ex-members of staff and Starbucks! Thank you for your donations - we have raised just over £200 !!

Our annual BBQ and Presentation Evening to celebrate the achievements of the pupils this year. The school was also presented with a new car by the Children with Special Needs Foundation!

Our Secondary production in July 2013 was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The Drama, Art, Music and ICT Clubs worked together and to produce a truly scrumptious show!
Portesbery's 40th Birthday Party and Summer Fete!
This year Portesbery celebrates its 40th Birthday, and to mark the occasion we had a birthday party in the sunshine! Thanks to all of the parents and staff for making it such fun!
Sports Day - June 2013
This year we had a record breaking sports day with loads of different activities for the whole school to participate in. Well done to Amy (S1) for organising such an enjoyable day!
Feeling Good Week 2013
We finished off our Feeling Good Week with a Fantastic Friday Feeling!! Activities included Dance Club, Gardening Club, Pamper Club, Movie Club, Messy Play, Decorating Clothes and Superhero Activities!
Our fundraising efforts have provided new equipment for Kupenda!
The proceeds from our fundraising efforts (last year's sponsored swim and cake sale) have bought a water tank and racks for washing and drying kitchen utensils at Kupenda, a Special school in Kenya. Thank you for your donations!
'Cuddle-Me-Do' Petting Farm - May 2013
As part of our Primary Curriculum topic we had a Petting Farm in our playground. Our pupils (and staff!) loved it!
Sponsored Wiggle - May 2013
We held a sponsored 'Wiggle' where we danced to our favourite songs and raised money for 'Happy Days' - a charity that organise trips and days out for children with special needs.
Lloyds Bank Volunteers give Portesbery a make-over!
Many Thanks go to volunteers from Lloyds Bank who have re-painted our playground fencing, tidied Sensory Ed's Garden Area and fitted a waterproof cover to our pergola in the Quad.
Jeanette's Last Day at Portesbery
To celebrate Jeanette's time with us at Portesbery we had a 'Book Day', where each class acted out their favourite book.
Primary Siblings Event on Red Nose Day 2013
As part of our Red Nose Day celebrations we invited Primary aged siblings to join us for a picnic lunch and DVD Slumber party!

Samba Drumming at Secondary Curriculum Day - Feb 2013
As part of our Secondary Curriculum Day, we had a whole-school Samba Drumming Workshop as well as Mexican dancing, mask making, smoothie making and a Carnival!
John Inverdale officially opens our Outdoor Gym!
Thanks to the Wooden Spoon charity for funding our new outdoor gym for secondary students. We were lucky enough to have John Inverdale (BBC Sports commentator) cutting the ribbon for us!

Clare's Christmas Sing-a-long
Clare Perry (New) is leaving us this Christmas after 20 years at the school. To celebrate her time here, all of the classes performed a festive tribute song.
Louise's Skydive! (and cake sale)
Louise from S2 has achieved the near impossible by completing her parachute jump to raise money for a wheelchair swing for use in our playground. So far she has raised £500 but we need a lot more so if you have yet to donate please do so! Thank you!
Children in Need - November 2012
This year we dressed up in spotty clothes and spent the afternoon playing games, face and nail painting, dancing and having a cake sale! We raised £150 for Children in Need - Thank you!
Our New Outdoor Gym Equipment
During October half-term we had some outdoor gym equipment installed in the playground, funded by the 'Wooden Spoon' charity. The pupils (and staff) love it! Thanks to Louise and Chris for liaising with the charity.
Our 're-vamped' Food Technology Room!

Green Class raise money for Kupenda in Kenya
Green Class have once again raised an amazing amount for Kupenda, a special school in Kenya (www.kupenda.org). They raised £350 by organising a cake sale, sponsored swim and car wash!

This year our Sports Day coincided with World Sports Day. Each class chose a country to represent and everyone received a medal and certificate.

As part of our Eco-Afternoon we did some junk-modelling based around the theme of the London Olympics 2012. All of the material was 'junk' and anything that we didn't use we recycled!
Calvert Trust - May 2012

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee - June 2012
To celebrate our Queen's Diamond Jubilee we made our own crowns and bunting, invited parents to our Street Party, had a celebratory disco and then a special Assembly.
Secondary Fashion Show - May 2012
Our Secondary department staged an amazing Fashion Show to tie in with this year's 'Textiles 'curriculum subject. The students designed and created their own outfits from the 60's, 70's and 80's using recycled materials and fabrics.
Portesbery Partnerships - 'Working Garden Party'!
In April 2012 we held a 'Working Garden Party', where staff, parents and pupils joined forces to clear our Quad area of leaves and weeds, remove the old greenhouse, add some new plants and generally make our outdoor area look lovely again! The only downside was that we were working in a monsoon!
Sport Relief 2012
For Sport Relief we started the day with a sponsored 'Wake Up And Stretch-athon' then each class walked a mile and received a medal in Assembly!
Secondary Curriculum Day and World Book Day - March 2012
Secondary Curriculum Day tied in with World Book Day this term and there was a carousel of themed activities including The Lord of the Rings, Roald Dahl's Little Red Riding Hood, The Egg Hunt and Giraffe's Can't Dance.
Primary trip to Painshill Park
The primary department went on their annual festive trip to Santa's Grotto at Painshill Park.
Spooky Disco - October 2011
Our Duke of Edinburgh group organised a Spooky Disco and tuck shop with all proceeds going to their chosen charity, the RSPCA. Everybody dressed up in spooky costumes and we had prizes for the best dressed students. We raised a total of £88.31 - thank you to everybody for their kind donations!
Leavers' Assembly - July 2011
We held a special Assembly on the last day of the Summer Term to say goodbye to our leavers (pupils and staff). We will miss them all!

Summer Fete - July 2011
Our Annual Summer Fete. This year we were lucky enough to welcome Elvis into the building! The Mayor of Surrey Heath also joined us to officially open our newly developed Woods area.
Wacky Plant Pot Competition
In July 2011, The Gardening Team organised a 'Wacky Plant Pot' Competition. The worthy winners were S3 with their 'Tea tray' !
Eco Day at Portesbery - May 2011
We held our annual Eco-Day in May. Activities included potting plants, junk modelling, creating Fair Trade logos and litter picking. We ended the day with a special assembly hosted by Jenni (aka 'Rainbow').
Royal Wedding Street Party - April 2011
We had a street party (in the playground) to celebrate the Royal Wedding! We even had an exclusive visit from William and Kate!

Comic Relief - March 2011
We held a cake sale in the hall and managed to raise over 280 pounds! This year we agreed to split the money raised between Comic Relief and the Japanese Disaster Appeal. As you can see, everyone wore silly clothes and there was a prize for the best dressed student!
FE raise money for the Pakistani Flood victims
FE Enterprise made soup every Tuesday to sell in the staff room. They raised 95 pounds to support the flood victims in Pakistan
